Divination
Divination is usually categorized in four types:
• Omens and omen texts. It is not unreasonable to assume that modern scientific inquiry began with this kind of divination.
• Sortilege (cleromancy). This consists of the casting of lots, or sortes, whether with sticks, stones, bones, beans, coins, or some other item. Modern playing cards and board games developed from this type of divination.
• Augury. Divination that ranks a set of given possibilities. It can be qualitative (such as shapes, proximities, etc.): for example, dowsing (a form of rhabdomancy) developed from this type of divination.
• Spontaneous. Actually a generalization of all types of divination; the answer to any inquiry comes from whatever object the diviner happens to see or hear. Some religions use a form of bibliomancy: they ask a question, riffle the pages of their holy book, and take as their answer the first passage their eyes light upon.
There are more methods of divination than could ever be explored and mastered in one lifetime due to the complexity and multiple facets of each tool. The first and foremost important thing to remember if you wish to use divination is to choose a style that you feel comfortable with, not just because they’re popular of a fad. The seer uses their subconscious to reveal answers to the querent’s questions. Like any divination tool it may be influenced by lower spirits who may attempt to lie to you; you should be careful who you choose to get answers from.
The following are explanations of the tools used for the services within Luna’s Circle:
• Astrology, probably the most common, is the use of the planets and stars to understand more about the self, including our strengths and limitations. It can be used as a guide to see where we have been and where we are going. Charting the planets can bring a more thorough understanding of the querent’s subconscious and assist in making decisions about life, love and possible future experiences. Charts can also be used to explain a child’s behaviors and thought patterns; however, no chart should ever be plotted without a parent’s permission.
• Numerology, the use of numbers, can also give one insight into traits, reasoning and possibilities based on mathematical equations using the numbers and letters we deal with in our everyday lives, numbers set by the universe around us. Each letter has a numeric value; these numbers are then added together to form the numbers which can reveal a great deal about character, purpose in life, what motivates, and where a querent’s talents may lie.
• Pendulums consist of a weight, or bob, which hangs freely from a chain or string. Some form of handle is may also be attached to the upper end of the chain to decrease the chance that the direction of movement would be caused by the person's subconscious. Spirits, your Higher Self, or even the pendulum may provide the answers you seek.
